Haiti Adoption Assistance Program

Agape Adoptions is pleased to offer, for Washington State residents, the Haiti Adoption Assistance Program through All Blessings International, a licensed nonprofit child placing agency located in the state of Kentucky. This is a unique partnership strictly for Washington State families, interested in adopting a child from Haiti.

Children who are in need of permanency

Those who were abandoned or orphaned before the earthquake or relinquished by surviving birth parents after the earthquake are available for adoption. Toddlers and elementary aged children are available, as well as many sibling groups.

  • In the case of a child with a previously diagnosed medical condition, the prospective adoptive family's homestudy must state and approve the family for the special medical need(s) the family will consider for adoption.

  • Gender may be specified

  • Sibling groups of 2 - 4 children are often available; ranging in age from 2 to 15 years

Requirements /Eligibility for adoption from Haiti

  • 35 years of age or older (married couples or single females)

  • Married for 10 years or married 7 years and cohabiting for 3 years

  • No more than 3 biological children in the home for married couples

  • No more than 2 biological children in the home for single females

  • The Haiti Adoption Program is a great option for families experienced in parenting

Process and Timeframes

  • After you have an approved application and signed agreements from All Blessings International, as your Haiti adoption services provider, and from Agape Adoptions, your home study provider, the working partnership to complete your home study and assemble your dossier documents and immigration forms begins. The time length for this portion of the process greatly depends on the Prospective Adoptive Family and how quickly they can gather the supportive documents required for both the home study and the Haiti dossier, and on third parties such as law enforcement, child abuse registries, etc.

  • Follow the Dossier Guidelines provided to you and submit each document as it is completed to Agape. Generally, the process up to this point can take about 3 months to complete.

  • Haiti requires that all dossier documents be notarized, authenticated by the state of notary, and then authenticated by the Haitian Embassy. Once again, the quicker the documents are submitted to Agape Adoptions the more expedient the process.

  • Once the dossier has been completed, your documents will be reviewed and prepared to enter the Haitian legal system when you have accepted a referral.

Referral

The current wait time for a child from Haiti varies based on the age and gender of child requested. The process of adoption takes on average 18-24 months from the time a referral is offered. Referral information includes as much detail as we receive from our overseas counterparts, including photographs with medical and social history.

Travel

Both parents are required to travel at least once but we encourage more travel in the interests of the child.

Different orphanages have varying rules regarding parent/child visitation. ABI can help with arranging your visits. We will check in during and after your visit.

  Post Adoption

Reports following a child’s placement for adoption are required to be completed by Agape Adoptions at 1, 6, and 12 months following placement.

* None of the children you see here are available for adoption. We have received written permission from each child's parent to use their child's photo on our website.
