Pre-Placement Report
As you begin your adoption journey, the first thing that must be completed is a pre-placement report, which is also known as a homestudy. The pre-placement report is a required document for all adoptions. It will represent you in court or with the foreign adoption authority. A pre-placement report is an overview of who you are. It provides information about you, your home, your lifestyle, financial situation, health and biographical information. The goal of a pre-placement is to learn more about you, discuss the adoption process, learn about your choices in adoption and exchange ideas and concerns about parenting. The pre-placement process generally takes 2-4 months to complete.
LENGTH OF TIME: The time needed from first contact with us to a completed report depends partly on how quickly documents are received. The sooner you are able to provide them, the sooner your study can be completed. Our usual practice is to schedule your home study visit when we have all your documents and your police and child protective services records checks on file . We will complete the pre-placement report after that visit. If you have already been matched with a birth mother whose delivery is imminent, please let us know and it may be possible to complete the report more quickly. If you are completing a non-Hague pre-placement, the average amount of time is 2 months. If you are completing a Hague pre-placement, the average amount of time is 3 -4 months.
FEES: Homestudy fees range from $1400- $1600 depending if you are in need of a Hague or Non Hague report. There are additional travel fees for families living east of the mountains. These fees are dependent on a variety of factors and determined prior to the beginning of the pre-placement process. Should an overnight stay be required, families are responsible for providing lodging at a reasonable hotel and meals.
